John Nichols

John & Wendy Nichols

Associate Pastor/ Ascend Discipleship Team
Email

My name is John Nichols, I was born in Bainbridge, Georgia and lived in the south most of my childhood. My wife and best friends name is Wendy Nichols, we have 3 boys. Isaac and Isaiah are our 8 year old twins and Jacob Eli is our 1 year old. I work for a Commercial Contractor in Richmond as a Safety Manager and part time as the Associate Pastor at New Life Community Church.

God has changed my life in many incredible ways, I surrendered my life to the Lord Jesus Christ in 2002 at a church in Charlottesville, VA and in return He saved me from my sin and set me free from drugs and addictions. My desire to grow in my relationship with Christ began to get stronger and stronger and we realized that we were not growing as we should at the church we were attending. We then bought a house in Louisa so we could be closer to my work. We began looking for other churches in Louisa. It did not take long before we realized that God was calling us to this place. The Word of God was being preached, souls were being saved and it stirred our hearts for more.

It has been the greatest privilege of my life to serve at my Lord at New Life Community Church.

I love to watch football, Go Skins!!! I enjoy playing the guitar (acoustic) and working out, my kids are awesome and I love spending time with them. I love mexican food, reading and hot coffee in the morning!!

My life verse is 1 Peter 2:9
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.

Life Quote:
"I believe in Christianity as I believe that the sun has risen: not only because I see it, but because by it I see everything else".

Jeff Benz

Jeff Benz

Ministry Operations Director / Creative Arts Team
Email

Jeff and Erin relocated their family from Nashville, TN to Louisa, VA in August 2006.    Visiting New Life that October, they instantly knew they had found their home church.  According to Jeff, "The Holy Spirit just knit our hearts to Pastor Josh and the New Life family  . . . we were drawn to the exciting, contemporary worship and the compelling, Biblical teaching".   The following March, the Benz's officially became members of New Life and, that same month, Jeff joined the Praise Band as drummer.   In August 2008, Jeff accepted the position as Worship and Technology Teams Leader, coordinating the Praise Band, as well as the Audio and Video Ministry Teams.   Married 16 years, Jeff and Erin have four children: Chandler, Braden, Landin and Kylie.   Currently, four of six Benz's serve in the Praise Band.  Along with Jeff, Erin serves as lead vocalist; Chandler adds vocals and keyboards; and Braden plays guitar and drums.   (We're excited to see what God is going to do with Landin and Kylie!)

Deb Grys
Building and Grounds Team

I am thankful to God for calling my wonderful husband Cas and I to Virginia and this church and for allowing me to express how much I love God by taking care of His church. I have been blessed with two beautiful grown children and four healthy and happy grandchildren.

Prior to moving here from California two years ago I worked for a large aerospace company in the Facilities department in different capacities. It is so fulfilling to be able to use some of my previous experiences and training to lead the Building Team to complete repairs and maintenance.

I want to be a workman approved by God. As He calls, I want to say like Isaiah, “Here am I, Lord. Use me.”

Mike Pelloni

Children and Youth Team

I grew up in Ellwood City, PA. It is located about 50 miles north of Pittsburgh. Born and raised a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. My wife's name is Melissa. We have two children Isaiah and Michael. Isaiah is eighteen months old and Michael is three months old. We started coming to New Life because I coached football with Gabe Turner. We stayed at New Life because the church has a relentless commitment to reaching people for Christ locally, regionally, and globally. I attended Grove City College in PA and received a degree in elementary education with a minor in early childhood. I received my Master's from Regent University in educational leadership. I am the Assistant Principal at Jouett Elementary School in Louisa County. I accepted Jesus as my savior at a young age at vacation bible school. However, my faith did not become my own until college. In college, God blessed me with a group of Christian friends that moved me from a lukewarm Christian to one who is ready to set hearts on fire for Jesus. Once I had fully surrendered my heart to Christ he opened my eyes to see that my future wife was right in front of me. With her love, support, and Godly character beside me I know that God has wonderful things in store for our family. I like most sports especially football. I also enjoy, fishing, weightlifting, and reading.

Life Verse? Matthew 20:26"It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant."

Life Quote:"A Godly Leader finds strength by realizing his weakness, finds authority by being under authority, finds direction by laying down his own plans, finds vision by seeing the needs of others, finds credibility by being an example, finds loyalty by expressing compassion, finds honor by being faithful, finds greatness by being a servant." – Roy Lessin

STATEMENT OF FAITH

Section 2.01 - Statement of Faith

The following comprise the Scriptural beliefs of this church and its members.

(A) The Holy Scriptures. We believe the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testament to be the verbally and plenary inspired Word of God. The Scriptures are inerrant, infallible and God-breathed, and therefore are the final authority for faith and life. The sixty-six books of the Old and New Testament are the complete and divine revelation of God to Man. The Scriptures shall be interpreted according to their normal grammatical-historical meaning, and all issues of interpretation and meaning shall be determined by the pastor. (2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:20-21)

(B) The Godhead. We believe in one Triune God, eternally existing in three persons--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit-each co-eternal in being, co-identical in nature, coequal in power and glory, and having the same attributes and perfections. (Deut. 6:4; Matt. 28:19; 2 Cor. 13:14; John 14:10, 26)

(C) The Person and Work of Christ.

    1. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, became man, without ceasing to be God, having been conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary, in order that He might reveal God and redeem sinful men. (Isa. 7:14; 9:6; Luke 1:35; John 1:1-2, 14; 2 Cor. 5:19-21; Gal. 4:4-5; Phil. 2:5-8)

    2. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ accomplished our redemption through His death on the cross as a representative, vicarious, substitutionary sacrifice; and, that our justification is made sure by His literal, physical resurrection from the dead. (Acts 2:18-36; Rom. 3:24-25; 1 Pet. 2:24; Eph. 1:7; 1 Peter 1:3-5)

    3. We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ ascended to Heaven, and is now exalted at the right hand of God, where, as our High Priest, He fulfills the ministry of Representative, Intercessor, and Advocate. (Acts 1:9-10; Heb. 9:24; 7:25; Rom. 8:34; 1 John 2:1-2)

(D) The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit.

    1. We believe that the Holy Spirit is a person who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment; and, that He is the Supernatural Agent in regeneration, baptizing all believers into the body of Christ, indwelling and sealing them unto the day of redemption. (John 16:8-11; Rom. 8:9; 1 Cor. 12:12-14; 2 Cor. 3:6; Eph. 1:13-14)

    2. We believe that He is the Divine Teacher who assists believers to understand and appropriate the Scriptures and that it is the privilege and duty of all the saved to be filled with the Spirit (Eph. 1:17-18; 5:18; 1 John 2:20, 27)

    3. We believe that God is sovereign in the bestowal of spiritual gifts to every believer. God uniquely uses evangelists, pastors, and teachers to equip believers in the assembly in order that they can do the work of the ministry. (Rom. 12:3-8; 1 Cor. 12:4-11, 28; Eph. 4:7-12)

(E) The Total Depravity of Man. We believe that man was created in the image and likeness of God, but that in Adam's sin the human race fell, inherited a sinful nature, and became alienated from God. Man is totally depraved and, of himself, utterly unable to remedy his lost condition. (Gen. 1:26-27; Rom. 3:22-23; 5:12; 6:23; Eph. 2:1-3; 4:17-19; Mark 3:29)

(F) Salvation. We believe that salvation is the gift of God brought to man by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, Whose precious blood was shed on Calvary for the forgiveness of our sins. We believe that all sins, except blasphemy of the Holy Spirit, are forgivable. (John 1:12; Eph. 1:7; 2:8-10; 1 Pet. 1:18-19; Matt. 12:31-32; 1 John 1:9; 1 John 3:29)

(G) The Eternal Security and Assurance of Believers.

    1. We believe that all the redeemed, once saved, are kept by God's power and are thus secure in Christ forever. (John 6:37-40; 10:27-30; Rom. 8:1; 38-39; 1 Cor. 1:4-8; 1 Pet. 1:4-5)

    2. We believe that it is the privilege of believers to rejoice in the assurance of their salvation through the testimony of God's Word, which, however, clearly forbids the use of Christian liberty as an occasion to the flesh. (Rom. 13:13-14; Gal. 5:13; Titus 2:11-15)

(H) The Second Advent of Christ. We believe in that "blessed hope," the personal, imminent return of Christ Who will rapture His church prior to the seven-year tribulation period. At the end of the Tribulation, Christ will personally and visibly return with His saints, to establish His earthly Messianic Kingdom which was promised to the nation of Israel. (Ps. 89:3-4; Dan. 2:31-45; Zech. 14:4-11; I Thess. 1:10; 1 Thess. 4:13-18; Titus 2:13; Rev. 3:10; 19:11-16; 20:1-6)

(I) Missions. We believe that God has given the church a great commission to proclaim the Gospel to all nations so that there might be a great multitude from every nation, tribe, ethnic group, and language group who believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. As ambassadors of Christ we must use all available means to go to the foreign nations and not wait for them to come to us. (Matt. 28:19-20; Mark 16:15; Luke 24:46-48; John 20:21; Acts 1:8; 2 Cor. 5:20)
