June 10, 2009

Dear Friends,

I hope that your summer has been filled with joy thus far. I know some of you are just now getting out of school, but Louisa County has been out for two weeks now. I am still hanging on trying to figure out just what stage of season I am in.

This week has been bittersweet with the loss of my grandfather. I want to thank each of you for prayers this week as our family celebrated his life here on earth. I am reminded that we all one day will go by way of the grave (Hebrews 9:27). And I have also noticed that 37 years is like a day in the time frame of God. One day 37 years will go by and we too may be closing our eyes for the very last time. One question: What did we do with our life? Did we make eternal differences? Did we add value to the lives of others? These are the questions that I want to say yes to in the end.

“And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment . . .”

Hebrews 9:27 NKJV

Ok here is what is happening around New Life.

Locally

Well our “Arresting the Darkness” week of spiritual renewal went well and God was with us throughout the whole week. Five pastors from different backgrounds and denominations coming together to make a difference in our community. Who would have ever thought that the Spiritual leaders in the community could come together to make a lasting difference. Lives were changed, commitments were made and God was glorified. The meetings brought together a touch of heaven as we all worshiped God as one day we all will do as Christians. It was the universal church here on earth for a week in Louisa.

A Week of Spiritual Renewal

“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them”

This past Sunday, was a special time for our fellowship as we maxed out at the lake! We baptized 12 in the lake along with a great crowd to watch and cheer while the rest of the world looked on. It gave us great joy to baptize this many converts on their way to following Jesus. The food was incredible and we all had a great time! I found out that the folks of New Life are water sport enthusiasts. We had Mr. Clay Pass barefootin’ behind the ski boat; Angie Wood was maxing out the kneeboard; Craig Holland was gaining air with the wakeboard; and Jesse Luther and his sister were edging the wakeboard hard! What great talent!

6This past weekend, we want to thank all of those who participated in Relay for Life in Louisa! I want to personally thank Angela Raettig for her hard work and dedication to this cause. We appreciated the opportunity for our praise team to play here and it was an honor to speak about hope found in Jesus.

Our prayers go out to the team from The Point Church of Charlottesville as they move their families to the ministry area. The lead pastor, Gabe Turner and his wife Kari have secured an apartment on Pantops Mountain and are ready to hit the ground running. We have especially enjoyed them sharing the vision with us on this new work. Please continue to pray for this team as they make this transition. Also pray for the people of Charlottesville as the team moves in that they would be receptive to the gospel. If you would like to be a part of this new work, please feel free to email Gabe personally and let him know (gabrielturner@yahoo.com). New Life is proud to be a supporter of this new church plant and we hope that if you know some unchurched people in Charlottesville, VA, you will POINT them this way!

Nicaragua, here we come!

Our first mission team meeting went well and we have secured plane tickets for 10 people who are committed to making this journey. We will be leaving on Friday, July 31st and returning on Friday August 7th. Please pray for Sheli Null, John Nichols, David Kay, Chelsea Holmes, Josh Turner, Kim Staudinger, Keli Singleton, Chris McKnight, Jason Gammon, and Cheryl Holland as we make this journey to this foreign land. Our team will be ministering in some of the poorest regions in the world distributing medical supplies and sharing the

gospel. We will also be serving on several feeding teams throughout the city of Leon. Our teams will be going into public schools and sharing the good news! Pray that our hearts will be open to the leading of the Holy Spirit and that our team would accomplish all that God has for us while we are there. Please also pray that the needed funds would come in to send the whole team. We are stepping out on faith that God would provide the needed funds. If you would like to sponsor all or part of an individual, please send your tax-deductible donation to New Life Community Church, c/o Nicaragua Mission, P.O. Box 502, Louisa, VA 23093. Our trip is costing $733/ person which includes everything. Right now, we are praying for at least three sponsorships to reach our goal.
